about Doro
I have lived in Alexander, ND since 1981. I was born in Sidney, Montana and raised on the farm/ranch in Hay Draw. Hay Draw is about 30 miles south of Alexander. Only 20 as the crow flies!
I taught school for twenty five years in rural areas and a lot of time in one-room country schools. The past five years I was coordinator of the Foster Grandparent Program for the NW counties. It was a wonderful experience, but sadly, enough volunteers did not step forward in the western half of the state, so they cut the funding for coordinators.
I helped organize the Alexander First Responders in 1985 and have been an Emergency Medical Technician since 1986. I decided two years ago I was going to retire after that reup, so on March 31, I am getting rid of that pager that tends to rout me out of my nice warm bed at the oddest hours of night! It has been a rewarding experience. I feel I followed a little bit in the footsteps of my maternal grandmother and aunt who were nurses.
I enjoy creating greeting cards and I have been doing a lot of that! I also have about 30 penpals. Nine of those are foreign friends. I met my pal Anette in Stockholm, Sweden this summer and she treated us to a day of sightseeing! I was also the guitar and fiddle player for five years in a great group called “Over the Hill Gang”.
If variety is the spice of life, I am a pretty spicy old lady!
